The short answer
This website sets no cookies at all when you read it. Not analytics, not advertising, not tracking, not even the ones that would be classed as strictly necessary. That is why there is no cookie banner: there is nothing to ask you about.
This one is free
No cookies, no banner, no consent decision, and nothing to click before you can read the page. We think that is how an information site should work, particularly one where people are often reading in difficult circumstances and would rather not be tracked doing it.
What we checked
We tested this rather than assuming it. Loading a page on this site produces no cookies for a reader, and every file the page requests comes from this domain. There are no requests to Google, to a font provider, to an analytics service or to a social network.
Fonts are self-hosted. That matters more than it sounds: loading fonts from a third-party service sends every visitor’s IP address to that provider, which turns a simple page into a data protection question. We host them ourselves so the question never arises.
What about the tools?
The tools on this site run entirely in your browser. They do not use cookies, they do not use local storage, and nothing you type is sent anywhere. Close the tab and it is gone.
If you are logged in
Administrators of this website receive cookies from WordPress that keep them logged in. That applies only to people with an account, which is our staff, and not to readers.
Important information
If analytics or any other non-essential cookie is ever added to this site, two things will happen before it goes live: a consent banner will be added, so that nothing non-essential is set until you agree, and this page will be updated to name the cookie, say what it does and say how long it lasts.
We will not add tracking quietly and update the small print afterwards.
Managing cookies generally
Nothing to manage here, but every browser lets you view and delete cookies and block them by site. The Information Commissioner’s Office guidance on cookies explains your rights across websites generally.
