The short answer
This website earns nothing directly. There is no advertising, there are no affiliate links, nobody pays to be mentioned, and nothing is for sale here. It is funded by Family Legal Ltd, which also operates the family mediation service Mediate UK, and that is the whole of the commercial interest.
Key points
- No advertising. None, anywhere on the site.
- No affiliate links. We receive nothing if you click a link and buy something.
- No paid placement. No organisation has paid to be recommended or included.
- We link to competitors and to free services because they are the right answer.
- Family Legal Ltd operates Mediate UK. We say so wherever it could matter.
So why does this site exist?
Two honest reasons.
The first is that Family Legal Ltd runs a mediation service, and a proportion of people who understand legal aid properly will conclude that mediation is their best option. Some of them will come to us. That is the commercial logic, and we are not going to pretend otherwise.
The second is that the information genuinely is bad. Two schemes described as one, a widespread belief that legal aid was abolished in 2013, and official guidance still listing benefits that no longer exist. Fixing that is worth doing, and being the site that fixed it is worth something to us in reputation even when nobody becomes a client.
What we do not do
- We do not take payment for recommendations. Nobody on this site is there because they paid.
- We do not use affiliate links. Every outbound link is a plain link.
- We do not sell your data. We do not collect it. The tools on this site run entirely in your browser and transmit nothing.
- We do not advertise. There are no ad slots and no tracking scripts. The site makes no third-party requests at all.
- We do not write differently because of the commercial relationship. Where mediation is the wrong answer, we say so.
Our disclosure
Family Legal Ltd, which operates this website, also operates Mediate UK, a family mediation service holding a Legal Aid Agency contract.
Where we mention Mediate UK we say that it is ours, and we describe what it offers accurately: legally aided mediation subject to your eligibility and to your case being suitable for mediation. We do not promise either, because neither is ours to promise.
Wherever we suggest finding a provider, we point first at the neutral directories: the Family Mediation Council and Find a legal aid adviser. Using them instead of us is a perfectly good outcome.
How to hold us to it
If you find anything on this site that reads like an advert, that recommends Mediate UK where another answer would serve you better, or that overstates what legal aid can do for you, tell us. We will correct it and record the correction.
Our editorial policy sets out how content is written and reviewed. Our corrections policy covers what happens when we get something wrong.
