Legal Aid 60 is an independent information website operated by Family Legal Ltd. It is not GOV.UK, the Legal Aid Agency or a government service, and it cannot decide whether you qualify for legal aid. About this site

Legal information disclaimer

The short answer

Everything on this website is general information about legal aid in England and Wales. It is not legal advice, it is not an official eligibility assessment, and it is not a substitute for speaking to a qualified person about your situation. Only the Legal Aid Agency, or a legal aid provider acting under its contract, can decide whether you qualify.

Important information

Legal Aid 60 is an independent information website operated by Family Legal Ltd. It is not GOV.UK, the Legal Aid Agency or a government service. We have no connection with the Legal Services Commission, the Ministry of Justice or the UK Government, and no endorsement from any of them. Family Legal Ltd does hold a Legal Aid Agency contract for family mediation, but this website is separate from that work and is not endorsed by the Legal Aid Agency.

Family Legal Ltd is not regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

What this means in practice

  • Nothing here is advice about your case. We do not know your circumstances, and general information cannot account for them.
  • No tool on this site assesses your eligibility. The tools are information aids. They produce a suggestion of where to look, not a decision.
  • Figures change. We review every three months and date everything, but a threshold can change between our review and your reading.
  • Time limits are real. Court deadlines and application deadlines are not affected by anything you read here.
  • England and Wales only. Scotland and Northern Ireland have entirely separate legal aid systems and nothing here applies to them.

What we do to be accurate anyway

None of the above is a reason to be careless, and we are not. Every figure is sourced to the legislation, the Legal Aid Agency or GOV.UK, and linked at the point the claim is made. Nothing is hard-coded into an article. The site is reviewed every three months, and where the official sources contradict each other we say so rather than choosing one.

Our sources. Our editorial policy. Our corrections policy.

Links to other websites

We link to GOV.UK, the Family Mediation Council, law centres, Citizens Advice, Advocate and other organisations because they are useful and independent. We do not control those sites and we are not responsible for what they say or do.

No outbound link on this site is an affiliate link and nobody pays to be linked to. How we make money.
