Legal Aid 60 is an independent information website operated by Family Legal Ltd. It is not GOV.UK, the Legal Aid Agency or a government service, and it cannot decide whether you qualify for legal aid. About this site

Regulatory information

The short answer

Family Legal Ltd, which operates this website, is not regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. This website is a general information service, not a regulated legal service, and providing information about the law is not a reserved legal activity. Nothing here is legal advice.

Why this matters

Some legal work is reserved by law to regulated people: conducting litigation, exercising rights of audience, certain probate and conveyancing work. Explaining how a public funding scheme works is not among them, and this site does not do any reserved work.

The practical consequence for you is that the protections attached to instructing a regulated solicitor, including their compulsory professional indemnity insurance and access to the Legal Ombudsman, do not apply to reading a website. They apply when you instruct a regulated firm, which is one of several reasons to do so where your case needs it.

Our sister mediation service

Family Legal Ltd also operates Mediate UK, a family mediation service. Family mediation is regulated separately from solicitors: mediators are accredited through the Family Mediation Council and its member bodies, and legally aided mediation is provided under a contract with the Legal Aid Agency.

Mediate UK holds a Legal Aid Agency contract and can offer legally aided mediation, subject to your eligibility and to your case being suitable for mediation. That is a different organisation from this website, and this website does not provide mediation.

How we make money and who runs this site set out the relationship in full.
